Compliance Director / Head of Compliance Services
Jamie is the Compliance Director for Harts Financial Group and is responsible for overseeing all of the compliance functions of the licensee, its corporate authorised representative Harts Financial Solutions. Jamie’s practical approach to compliance ensures that the Harts Financial Group both meets its compliance obligations and provides clients with a practical advice framework.
Jamie has extensive sales and industry experience that covers the full range of financial services, insurance and banking roles and products. He started his career in 1975 when he joined the Commonwealth Bank and spent six years in the branches. Jamie then moved into marketing where he worked on a variety of projects including electronic banking, developing an approved deposit fund, and introducing Commonwealth Life and Commonwealth Financial Services to Western Australia. During this time he also spent about 30% of his time as a financial planner for the Bank.
Jamie joined Mercantile Mutual in 1988 and was charged with developing and implementing the marketing strategy for their entry into investment products. Within four years, he took the market share in Western Australia from zero to just under 15%. In 1992 he was transferred to NSW as the State Manager and grew the team from two to eight and increased business inflows from $3.2m to over $1b a year. During his time with Mercantile Mutual, Jamie was one of twenty individuals selected to participate in the senior management development program, was one of three company representatives on the enterprise bargaining committee, was a standing member on the compliance committee and was co-chair of the review of the structure and operations of Mercantile’s call centres (1998-2000).
In 2000, Jamie joined Challenger International as State Manager and within six months was promoted to Regional Manager. A short time thereafter he was promoted to National Sales Manager for Investment Products and became responsible for fourteen BDM’s and nine support staff. In 2002, Jamie was given the opportunity to move into funds management where he managed five MTM funds as well as developing five new wholesale funds. He was also appointed to the compliance and audit committee.
For family reasons, Jamie decided to move back to Western Australia and finished up with Challenger in 2003. However, Jamie assisted Challenger on a contract basis to implement the policies and procedures for PS146 and PS164. Since moving back to Perth, Jamie has consulted extensively to the Financial Services Industry, concentrating on small to medium size businesses and offering a full range of services. Jamie is also involved with the industry through the Financial Planning Association (FPA) where he was the Treasurer for the Sydney Chapter for nearly ten years (1993-2003) and prior to that was the Secretary of the IAFP and then the FPA in Perth for four years (1989-1992). Jamie also served on the National Legal and Regulations committee from 1992 to 1998 and was treasurer for one National convention and committee member for another. Currently Jamie is a member of the WA Chapter of the FPA.
